Kannada is one of the oldest surviving daily used languages across India.
@ Kadamba script which is the first Kannada script originated around 5th century. When the first available Kannada book “Kavirajamarga” was written in 850AD by Amogavarsha, English was a baby in the cradle and Hindi was not born at all. First inscription of Kannada dates back to 450AD(Halmidi Shaasana).

There are many other great rulers, we have a really great, rich history.

@ Contrary to the misconception that we did not participate in Indian Freedom struggle, we were more than active in Indian freedom struggle. One of the earliest freedom fighters, namely Rani Abbakka, Kittooru Chinnamma, SangoLLi RayaNNa all belong to KannadaNadu, who fought against foreigners much before First War of Indian Freedom Struggle.
@ Even during Gandhian movement, whole Karnataka especially Coastal areas participated in Salt movement, Quit India Movement etc.
@ Kannada has second highest number of Jnanapeeta awards. 8 Kannada authors have received the most prestigious literary award of the country which is more than any other language other than Hindi. 8***** And funny thing is for almost half of them, mother tongue is not Kannada. They have learnt, loved, mastered, wrote and lived in Kannada despite that. That is hopefully a unknown fact.
@ The only Indian author who got maximum awards for literature is Shri Kuvempu who is a proud Kannadiga.

A Madhwa saint Narahari theertharu has written many Kannada devotional songs from Kalinga region[i.e Orissa] in 13th century itself. Even though he was a native of that region and also being the administrator of Kalinga kingdom for 12 years he has written many devotional songs such as:

hariye idu sariye
tiliko ninnologe neene
